Expanded Beam - Fibre Optic Connectors

D38999 Derived Expanded Beam
Connectors for Harsh Environment Applications

Overview

The Polamco expanded beam fibre-optic connectors have been produced with the popular and proven MIL-DTL-38999 Series III connector format.  The generic, tri-start one-turn anti-decoupling mechanism and rugged construction, with our wide choice of materials and plating finishes makes the system particularly suitable for harsh environment vehicle, aircraft and naval applications worldwide. The expanded beam arrangement provides high-reliability transmission even in harsh conditions and may be easily cleaned  ‘in the field’ without affecting functionality if necessary.

D38999 Fibre Optic Connectors

Characteristics

The fibre is sealed behind a lens and therefore is not exposed
to the outside environment and cannot be damaged in service.

• The light emitting from the fibre is expanded and transmitted as  a collimated beam across an air gap into the mating connector. There is no contact  between the lenses.
• The lens vastly increases the active area of the fibre.
This results in the connector being greatly less sensitive to dirt and contamination than butt-contact types.
• Cleaning expanded beam connectors is easy. The expanded beam insert has a largely flat surface and there are no moving parts or alignment sleeves. It   is not possible to damage the fibre or lenses during cleaning. Special cleaning materials are not essential. Extremely dirty or muddy connectors can be rinsed in water, then dried with a cloth.
• Polamco expanded beam connectors are at least IP67 rated - mated, unmated, with or without dust cap fitted.
